CSP - IX Iberoamerican Meeting on Optics and XII Iberoamerican Meeting on Optics, Lasers and Applications (RIAO/OPTILAS 2016)

Abstract

Since 1992, Iberoamerican researchers meet every three years in order to establish permanent ties of cooperation and to strengthen advances and new research lines in optics and photonics. Now, for the first time, Chile is honoured to be the host of the IX Iberoamerican Optics Meeting (RIAO, from the Spanish Reuni~n Ibero-Americana de ~ptica) and the XII Latin American Meeting of Optics, Lasers and Applications (OPTILAS). Both events are organized by the Center for Optics and Photonics of Universidad de Concepci~n (CEFOP-UdeC), and will be held in the city of Puc~n, in Chile~s Araucania Region, from Monday 21 to Friday 25, November 2016. This meeting anticipates the arrival of 500 participants, and constitutes a privileged place to exchange ideas and experiences in the fields of optics and photonics, as well as in establishing long-term collaborations and cooperative relationships and friendships among Iberoamerican institutions and researchers in Optics.RIAO/OPTILAS is a stellar example of growth of the scientific community involved in topics related to optics development, and it is the biggest referent of the contributions made by Iberoamerican researchers to advance the field of optics and photonics. Covering from quantum to classical optics phenomena, applied and basic research is developed across Ibero-America in many critical areas such as quantum optics, free- space optics communication, classical optics encryption, remote sensing, lens less imaging and object reconstruction, to name a few. On the other hand, photonics encompasses hot topics describing the interaction between light and matter, such as, femtosecond lasers, optical fibers, photonic crystals, x-ray optics, etc. In general, optics and photonics research is a key area in the development of our modern world. In this way, the research presented at the conference may positively impact in the objectives of the US Naval and Marine Corp science and technology plan. Not necessarily because of a direct application, but contributing to the general body of knowledge in Optics and Photonics. Additionally, a sponsorship of the US Navy may raise awareness of the grants and opportunities offered by the ONRG to local scientists which will lead to proposals in the near future.
