CSP - Wind Waves Symposium 2017
Abstract
The background is that we have approval from IUTAM General Assembly to hold a IUTAM Symposium on Wind Waves which will be held at in" the Department of Mathematics, University College London (UCL), September 4-8, 2017. In the following pages we p""resent our scientific rationale, and the members of the scientific committee. We are expecting about 60-80 participants from"" around the world including about 15-20 from US. We are confident that most of the major players in this field will be present, and"" also attached is an advertising flyer. In addition to the information there we can add that Ken Melville, Julian Hunt, Peter Janss"en and Guillemette Caulliez have already agreed to present plenary talks at the symposium. According to IUTAM guidelines (attac"hed) participation is formally by invitation from the chair of the scientific committee, and we have already sent out an"" email invitation to over 60 possible participants. However, we intend this meeting to be as open as possible, and in practice will"" accept any reasonable application to attend. We have already done this as word has spread about our meeting, and will facilitate th""is further when a conference web site is set up around September 2016, where there will be a link for inquiries about participation."" IUTAM provide US $6000 for this symposium, essentially to support younger participants, but we will need substantially m""ore than this to run a successful meeting and support (at least partially) most participants, especially from outside UK. W""e intend to keep the registration fee as low as possible, probably around GB ~200 (the IUTAM rules specify less than U""S $500), and will use this to cover most of the local running costs. A draft budget based on 50 participants is attached. In order t""o be able to support, at least partially, as many participants as possible, we are seeking a grant of US $15000 from ONR.
