Abstract

MARIN will host the Numerical Towing Tank Symposium 2017 (NuTTS 17) from 30thSeptember until 3rd October in Wageningen, Netherlan""ds. The conference covers thenumerical simulation of flows around ships an offshore structures, with a stronglink to realistic app"lications. The objective of the event is to provide a forum forinformal discussions among experts in the field and to disseminate latest results.Younger workers and Ph.D. students are especially encouraged to participate. Allparticipants stay and have meals tog"ether to maximize interaction anddiscussion.Historically, participants from Europe, Asia and North America have attended, includin"g numerous distinguished professors and industrial specialists in the fieldof computational fluid dynamics. Normally there are no invited speakers. The extended abstracts (at least 4 pages long) of the proposed talks will bedirectly reproduced in pdf proceedings". Work in progress, encountered problems, etc. should be discussed in an open, informal atmosphere (no ties!) amongcolleagues. The" conference is often regarded by participants as a primeopportunity to discuss work due to the fact that delegates all stay in the" samehotel, as well as eat all meals together. The symposium will start with an optional visit to MARIN on Sunday morning (1stOcto"ber). After a welcome lunch we will have two sessions with presentations inthe afternoon. Technical presentations are also planned for Monday and Tuesdaymorning. The conference will be concluded with a joint lunch on Tuesday.MARIN will of course sponsor the ev"ent. In addition, sponsoring is asked fromseveral industrial partners, which will be used for the scheduled conferencedinners on S""unday and Monday night. With 60 participants, the remaining costsfor accommodation are approximately 20000 USD. To keep the costs f""or theparticipants at an acceptable level, the ONR funding we ask for will be used topartly pay this amount..
