NICOP - Advanced Search Strategies in Anomalous Dynamics: Models, Methods, Applications
Abstract
Support is sought to shape a new cross-disciplinary field of research. Understandinghow living organisms optimize their search for" resources requires to combinemovement ecology, driven by experiments, with anomalous stochastic theory mod-eling dynamics beyond"" Brownian motion and operations research, which originatedfrom Navy search and rescue missions. A new scientific community needs to" be cre-ated transferring knowledge of mathematical models and methods towards applicationsin biological experiments and human soc"iety, and back. Its cross-disciplinaryjoint approach is to model foraging by stochastic search for randomly located targets.Mergin"g the above fields for applying novel types of anomalous dynamics to bio-logically realistic search scenarios will yield advanced search strategies beyond thecurrently dominating L~evy hypothesis. Key outcomes are a conference organizationplus a book defining t"his emerging field of research and publications based on sevenresearch projects, which should help establishing myself as a leading" scientist in thisfield.
