CSP - INDO-US CSP on Grand Challenges of Ocean-Atmosphere-Climate Interactions
Abstract
The Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (IITBBS) has established a School of Earth,Ocean and Climate Sciences offering vario""us academic programs related to Ocean, Atmosphereand Geosciences. We propose to host a workshop on ~Grand Challenges of Ocean-Atmos""phere-Climate Interactions~ during 24 to 26th January, 2017. This event will bring together experts fromUS and India and will prov"ide a unique opportunity to discuss and develop future pathways forcollaborative research programs in the following areas of mutual" interest. The objectives of this workshop are,i. Identifying challenges in Ocean-Atmosphere-Climate Interactions with specialrefe""rence to Bay of Bengal,ii. Strategizing basic research (including prediction) in the areas of extreme events, coastal oceanography,"" marine geology and regional climate using state of the artmodels, observed datasets (in-situ, remote sensing analysis) with specia""l thrust onNorth Indian Ocean, iii. Addressing knowledge gap and enhance technical expertise in the areas of advancedocean acousti""c concepts and computation including signal processing, physics, systems and simulation. It is anticipated that resource persons fro""m around the world including premierinstitutions/research labs such as Office of Naval Research, Florida State University, Universi""tyof Massachusetts Dartmouth, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute etc. internationally along withIndian counterparts, Defence Resea""rch and Development Organization (DRDO), MoES-ESSO(Ministry of Earth Sciences ~ Earth System Sciences Organization), Council for Sc"ientific andIndustrial Research (CSIR)-India.
