CSP - 23rd Soft Magnetic Materials Conference
Abstract
The Soft Magnetic Materials Conference (SMM) is the largest international conference devotedto soft magnetic materials. This bienni"al Conference brings together researchers from industryand academia working on all aspects of soft magnetic materials, with topics"" including, amongothers, materials properties, applications, device design, fundamental studies in magnetism andsimulations. The 2""3rd SMM is organized by Sevilla University from 10 to 13 of September, 2017.The conference will comprise three days of invited, ora"l and poster presentations and willprovide a platform for discussion and learning about the most recent developments in the fieldo"f soft magnetic materials, evidencing how science and technology of this kind of materials arechanging rapidly and highlighting new"" opportunities and challenges for researchers andtechnologists.Soft magnets are currently used in a variety of applications, rangi"ng from energy conversion tosensors. Open challenges in soft magnetic nanocrystalline alloys include the optimization ofmaterials~ properties for specific applications and the enhancement the usability of the alloysthrough decreasing their brittleness and increasing the thermal stability of the metastablephases. These goals can be achieved by a combination of compositional changes andappropriate processing of the alloys. Tuning the hysteresis loops by processing the materialsunder the simultaneous influence of magnet"ic field, stress and temperature is a promising routeto broaden the applications of nanocrystalline soft magnets. In addition, the" design of exchangecoupledhard~soft magnetic nanocomposites is a field of current interest in which ultrasoftnanocrystalline alloy"s could play a role.In addition to the traditional topics of SMM conferences, we will hold sessions on soft magneticmaterials for"" energy conversion and harvesting, including magnetic refrigeration, andbiomedical applications of magnetic nanoparticles, as they" are emerging fields of research inwhich magnetic softness plays an important role.
