CSP - The 12th General Meeting of ACCMS-VO
Abstract
During the ""International Workshop on Materials Design by ComputerSimulation at Atomic and Electronic Levels"", held at the Sendai I""nternationalCenter, during August 18-19, 2000 as part of the ""International Symposium onResearch and Education in the 21st Century"" -- The Role of Inter-UniversityAcademic and Student Exchange (ISRE2000)"", Prof. Y. Kawazoe of the Institutefor Materials Research"" (IMR), Tohoku University, Sendai (at that time), proposedto enhance corporation in Asian region in the area of computational mater""ialsscience. After mutual consultations among leading scientists in Asia, it wasproposed to form the ""Asian Consortium on Computat""ional Materials Science(ACCMS)"". Accordingly, we welcome active researchers to join this consortiumand send their suggestions on v""arious aspects to make it successful instrengthening corporation in Asian region. Based on the experience in ACCMS,in 2006 we deci"ded to start virtual organization (VO) on the Internet toencourage stronger collaboration in Asia for computational material design usingcomputational resources located in specific Institutions in Asia (mainly IMR) forthe members of ACCMS. This idea was success"fully accepted by the community, and a number of researchers have joined us. Next requirement was to meetface to face to exchange i"nformation directly to construct concrete relationshipamong the members and we started the annual international conference. Thepur"poses of ACCMS-VO are: (1). Realize ""Asian Consortium on ComputationalMaterials Science (ACCMS) - Virtual Organization"" as advanced"" and expansiveACCMS, and (2). Recognize IMR, Tohoku University and other leadingorganizations in Asia as an important center at in"ternational level through theuse of a high-speed network. To be able to organize annual international conference for the members of"ACCMS-VO of about 250 registered participants, it is necessary to be fundedcontinuously. In these 10 years, we have been successfu"lly supported by thegovernment and private sources and using these supports to invite around 40foreign and 60 domestic researchers" each year.ACCMS-VO12 will be held in December, 2017 in Sendai, as the last VOmeeting, where the size of the conference is expecte""d to be with more than100participants, and we would like to request organizations related to thisconference for financial and orga""nizational supports. Especially, Office of NavalResearch Global (ONRG) support is expected for this conference oncomputational mat""erials science, which is a growing field over the world, andimportant contribution from Asian region should be kept.New materials" change the world; especially new high-tech devices alldepend on new materials. Recent progress in computer simulation makes itpossible to design and predict new useful materials which match to therequirements from ONRG or any other advanced technology organizations.
