10th International Workshop on Modelling the Ocean (IWMO-2018)
Abstract
The present request for support refers to the realization of ~10th InternationalWorkshop on Modelling the Ocean, IWMO~ that will be" held in Brazil. It is justifiedby the importance of the evolution of knowledge in the areas of numericalmodelling and observational studies on the terrestrial system in its componentsocean / atmosphere. The IWMO is an international event whose name remainsthe same despite the wide range and diversity of topics covered. The group ofusers and developers of the Princeton Ocean Model (POM) f"irst conceived thisevent in the mid-1990s, which was the first public domain code made available tothe scientific community in the" late 1980s. The IWMO is an annual eventorganized to promote the dissemination of advances in studies and research inall aspects o"f the ocean and the modelling of coupled phenomena that occur atthe interface between ocean, atmosphere and the continent, such as"" waves, seaice, sediment transport, etc. This event aims to focus on processes studies, methods of analysis and observation, the dev"elopment of codes and formulationsas well as aspects applied to the prediction of natural oceanic phenomena. Giventhe diversity of" topics covered by the IWMO, it is hoped to promote and alsoenhance the insertion of studies carried out in research and teaching i""nstitutionsin our own country and abroad, through direct contact with professionals fromabroad who work directly in corresponding"" areas. In addition to an expressiveparticipation of researchers and professors who wish to exchange theirexperiences, it is also"" hoped to attract young scientists, postdoctoral studentsand graduate students, in order to encourage all participants to achieve a"considerable intellectual advance. It should be emphasized that the IWMO washeld in the Southern Hemisphere only in one opportunit"y, so that an event inBrazil represents an achievement and recognition for the Brazilian scientificcommunity. It is important to r""emark that the Organizing Committeeunconditionally supports the 2018 event in Brazil, given the significant number ofresearchers i"n these areas of knowledge with a recognized internationalprojection.
