CSP - The 6th Pacific Rim Underwater Acoustic Conference (6th PRUAC2018), Taipei/Hualien, TAIWAN

Abstract

The 6th Pacific Rim Underwater Acoustic Conference (PRUAC2018) will beorganized by the National Taiwan University, and will be held from September 2to 5, 2018, at the Farglory Hotel, Hualien, Taiwan. It will be a forum forresearchers in acoustics, wave propagation and other related areas to discussstate-of-the-art of the role the acoustics plays in fishing management, and, harborsurveillance. There will be the poster exhibition and competition of 15 studentsto present their research performances. And, up to three students will receive anaward of USD300 each. The first PRUAC conference was held in Canada in 2007. After more than adecade, it now comes to the 6th PRUAC2018 conference. So far, sixconferences have been held:6th PRUAC, September 2-5, 2018, Taipei/Hualien, TAIWANConference Themes: (1) Underwater Noise Impact on Marine Life andAcoustic Monitoring of Marine Life; (2) Underwater Acoustic Studies inLittoral Waters5th PRUAC, September 23-26, 2015, Vladivostok, RUSSIAConference Themes: Underwater Inhomogeneity: Characterization andApplication4th PRUAC, October 9-11, 2013, Hangzhou, CHINAConference Themes: Underwater Acoustics and Ocean Dynamics3rd PRUAC, October 5-7, 2011, Jeju Island, KOREAConference Themes: Shallow Water Acoustics2nd PRUAC, September 23-25, 2009, Xi???An, CHINAConference Themes: Toward Higher Acoustic Frequencies and FewerHydrophones to Invert for Sub-bottom Properties with Underwater Robots:Experimental Results1st PRUAC, October 3-5, 2007, Vancouver, CANADAConference Themes: Underwater Ambient Noise: Characterization,Applications, and ImpactsII. Specify how this event or related outcomes will contribute to or supportthe US Naval or Marine Corp Science & Technology Plan and identifyspecific focus areas that will be addressed. The theme of the PRUAC2018 conference will return to the original theme of thefirst PRUAC conference: impacts of noise in marine environment. Applications ofPassive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) and Active Acoustics Detection in underwateracoustic detection and monitoring will be featured. The anticipated 22 (invitedand contributed) papers and three plenary lectures delivered at the conferencewill stimulate and encourage discussions and will further research in differentareas related to the conference theme. The outcome of the conference will inreturn directly support the US Naval Science & Technology Plan. The focus areas of the PRUAC2018 will be presented in topics, in alphabeticalorder, of the following:??? Acoustical Oceanography??? Acoustics for Navigation??? Acoustics of Bubbles??? Acoustics of Polar Environments??? Acoustic Tomography??? Ambient Noise: Sources, Monitoring and Trend??? Bioacoustics and Fisheries??? Emerging Applications??? Propagation and Scattering??? Seismic Oceanography??? Sound Propagation in Shallow and Deep Water??? Underwater Sensors and Arrays??? Underwater Communication and Networking??? Other Related Topics
