NICOP - Observation of the Northwest Luzon Coastal Current

Abstract

This proposal is for additional funding for an oceanographic cruise off Northwest Luzon to be conducted on August 2017 as preliminary cruise that will help refine the field phase of the PISTON program summer 2018 cruise. The project aims to collect in situ observations of the NWLCC which has yet to be observed but is reported in literature based on models and analysis of dynamic heights. The approach is to make repeat transects at 17, 18, and 19??N west of Luzon Island, Philippines and measure currents, surface temperature, salinity, and meteorological parameters by using an ADCP, deploying and towing fast-?????sampling CTD with a high-?????end electric fishing reel and releasing radiosondes onboard every 4hours while ship is underway.
