CSP - The Institute d Alembert, member of the University Paris 6 Pierre et Marie Curie, will organize the next session of the DCLDE conference
Abstract
The first session of the International DCLDE Workshop was done in 2003 in Halifax (Canada), and thenit was organized every 2 years in different countries between Europa and USA. The 8th session will beorganized in Paris, France from June 4th to 8th of June 2018.This conference usually brings between 150 and 170 researchers, engineers and students specializing inacoustics, signal processing, pattern recognition, applied math, and animal biology, and studyingcetaceans and their environments. Scientific topics given by oral presentations and posters will bededicated to acoustics, signal processing, applied math and computer sciences applied to the analyses ofacoustics recordings of cetacean sounds and their underwater environment sounds.Program will be find on the CNRS-Sabiod website http://sabiod.univ-tln.fr/DCLDE/. Abstracts of theoral presentations and posters will be compiled in proceedings and given to all participants. As part of this conference, we are also organizing 2 scientific events:a) Two tutorial sessions on machine learning and density estimation will be respectively done byProf H. Glotin (LSIS, Univ of Toulon, France) and Dr. L. Thomas (St Andrews Univ, UK). Thesesessions will be open to all participants who want to learn more about the methods and to use thetools dedicated to these topics.b) We will welcome people to participate to a computer challenge aimed at automaticallydetecting and classifying sound events describing underwater acoustic landscapes. This challenge, headed by Prof. Herv?? Glotin, will be based on the low frequency Atlantic dataset from Prof JohnHildebrand, Scripps Institution of Oceanography. We also consider to use the dataset of acousticrecordings from St Pierre et Miquelon (French Island close to Newfoundland, Canada) set up byProf. Olivier Adam. The dataset will be open to access to everyone before, during and after theworkshop. This challenge will be partially supported by the CNRS scientific network dedicatedto big data: Madics (www.madics.fr).One of the applications of the DCLDE workshop is to measure potential impacts of human activities onmarine biodiversity and underwater environment. Then communications on the needed importance toconserve the oceans will be even done to non-scientific people. It will also be the thematic of the showof the American choreographer Camille Hanson who will perform with her dancers ???The Sacrifice ofGiants??? (http://www.camillehanson.com/staying-alive/).During the previous week, we will also organize a press conference to inform the public.
