NICOP - New AC Poling Technique for Maximizing Dielectric and Piezoelectric Properties of Donor/Acceptor-modified PMN-PZT Single Crystals
Abstract
This proposed research project aims to develop a new AC poling technique of donor/acceptormodifiedPMN-PZT single crystals to maximize their dielectric and piezoelectric properties. Itwill be also determined which donor or acceptor is the most effective for the new AC poling process. The target properties of donor-modified or ???piezoelectrically soft??? PMN-PZT single crystals arepiezoelectric constant (d33)>4,000 pC/N, dielectric constant (K3T)>10,000, TRT>100oC, andTC>160oC. The target properties of acceptor-modified or ???piezoelectrically hard??? PMN-PZT single crystalsare d33>1,500 pC/N, Qm>1,000, TRT>145oC, and TC>200oC. The PMN-PZT single crystals modified byappropriate donor/acceptor and AC poled in an optimized condition may be classified the ???Gen IV???piezoelectric single crystals. A pilot manufacturing process for the production of Gen IV PMN-PZT crystalsby the SSCG technique will be also established. These Gen IV PMN-PZT single crystals are also suppliedto NUWC for their characterization as well as to build SONAR transducers.
