CSP - Application for an ONR global grant for the 32nd Symposium on Naval Hydrodynamics

Abstract

The 32nd Symposium on Naval Hydrodynamics will be held in Hamburg, Germany, onAugust 5th - 10th, 2018. The Symposium is co-sponsored by the U.S. O?ce of NavalResearch (ONR) and the Institute for Fluid Dynamics and Ship Theory of the HamburgUniversity of Technology (TUHH, host). The Symposium on Naval Hydrodynamics is a global forum for networking and sharingadvancements in cutting edge science and technology. Since its inception in 1956, this bien-nial symposium has focused on research and development in uid mechanics as they relateto naval hydrodynamics. The symposium proceedings have traditionally provided archivaldocumentation of state-of-the-art research and development in naval hydrodynamics. Thus the symposium has established itself as a key event for the presentation of world-classnaval research. The long-term traditional, substantial, organizational and ?nancial supportfrom ONR bene?ts global research in the maritime sector as well as the ONR.As hosting university, the TUHH is committed to maintain the high standards of the sym-posium by ensuring suitable facilities, modern technical equipment and smooth organization. In this manner, the host aims to provide the appropriate atmosphere and environment forthe intended knowledge transfer, so that also in future years the symposium will attractthe highest-level scienti?c research in naval hydrodynamics. This is a challenge due to thecomparatively long time frame of the symposium (six days) along with the necessity to keepregistration rates moderate enough so that all interested scientists can attend. Thus the TUHH applies with this grant for ?nancial support by the ONR. The ?nancialsupport will be used for the following purposes:? Two technicians and professional technical equipment will be rented, to avoid problemswith technical equipment as were encountered on the previous symposium.? Accommodation, ights and conference participation will be covered for invited speak-ers, keynote speakers and Weinblum lecturer.? Conference banners, yers, and other written materials will be printed and the confer-ence proceedings will be distributed on USB-sticks.
