2019 IEEE Specialist Meeting on Reflectometry using GNSS and other Signals of Opportunity

Abstract

The IEEE GNSS+R 2019 specialist meeting will provide an international forum for reporting and discussing recent achievements in Global Navigation Satellite System-Reflectometry and other signals of opportunity. They provide geophysical information on land, ice and ocean with high spatial and temporal resolution due the existence of multiple receivers and their ability to capture several reflections at any one time. The high space-time sampling cannot be achieved with other sensors at the present time.a. The host organization is well-experienced in the GNSS+R research.b. The PI and his team are very well qualified. 2. Global Navigation Satellite System+ Reflectometry GNSS+R) can be regarded as a new bistatic passive radar technique that has been recently exploited for sensing wind speed during cyclone development. The full capabilities of GNSS+R are not completely understood but it is proven that it can be used for passive detection of targets on the sea surface, and perhaps, on land, especially from moderate altitudes and with small drones. In such respect, the themes of the conference are of interest to ONRG. Additionally, when used with other signals of opportunity, such as communications signals, it may open other interesting and powerful applications for homeland surveillance and security.
