MarineComm:Workshop on communication technology transfer for Ocean science.
Abstract
Overall scientific and technical merits: The piezoelectric single crystal exhibits excellent electromechanical properties, enabling sonar transducers with exceptional capabilities (>4X power level, 50-70% reduction in size, >4X sensitivity, 2X-3X bandwidth, etc.). Hence it is of significant importance to monitor the development of piezocrystal compositions and applications worldwide and to seek technology advancement opportunities. In particular, a number of new discoveries have occurred since the last (Europe-centric) piezocrystal workshop sponsored by ONR/ONRG: new poling techniques, freezing of dielectric properties below 100K which has led to novel concept of the origin of giant piezoelectricity, continuous feed crystal growth, and organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites. The International Symposium on Piezocrystals and their Applications will be an invitation-only one-day event held in conjunction with the 2019 IEEE International Symposium on Application of Ferroelectrics (ISAF) to encourage attendance. The morning session will focus on fundamental science and the afternoon on piezocrystal applications. This event will provide a positive environment for building future international collaborative research. The PI is a renowned scientist of the subject matter. His team~s past accomplishments clearly demonstrate the research team~s capabilities and facilities. The PI~s expertise and experience make him uniquely qualified to lead the project.
