The 8th International Conference on the Development of Biomedical Engineering in Vietnam - HEALTHCARE TECHNOLOGY FOR SMART CITY IN LOW AND MIDDLE INCOME COUNTRIES

Abstract

With nonstop efforts and enormous supports in the last decade for the development ofBiomedical Engineering in Vietnam, the field has rapidly emerged and achieved initialsuccesses in both education and research since the first conference in 2005 to the 7th in2018. Upon the success, in 2020, we organize the 8th International Conference on BiomedicalEngineering with the theme Healthcare technology for smart city in low and middleincome countries in Vietnam, aiming to promote the link between education, research andentrepreneurship with the goal to translate research results into the improvement of thepublics health in Vietnam and developing countries.Vietnam is a low and middle income country (LMIC), yet it has an intellectualworkforce of an emerging country. In addition, LMIC have many unexplored research topicsvery attractive to pioneer researchers to discover. Therefore, this meeting serves as anexciting forum and a model of LMIC for researchers, educators, entrepreneurs, administrators and policy makers from advanced and LMI countries to exchange novel ideas, discuss current biomedical issues, propose solutions and develop collaborations ontranslational research and technologies in healthcare applications particularly for LMIC.Progress in biomedical engineering (BME) has never been more rapid and excitingthan it is today. This coming conference reflects the progresses of BME in Vietnam and othercountries in spread and depth. Reflecting the dynamics of the country, BME in Vietnam is afast growing field. We have received steady collaborations of our international peers whohelp us to build up our activities. Therefore, the conference main objective is to provide aforum for international collaboration and dissemination of research in the broad areas ofbiomedical engineering including medical instrumentation, biotechnology, medical imaging, drug delivery therapy, regenerative medicine, computational medicine to exchange newresearch ideas and results. Specifically, the conference will help to 1) establish acollaboration network of among Vietnams and international scientists and experts in thefields of BME; 2) provide opportunities for international scientists to come to Vietnam toinvestigate research topics that are proper for Vietnam and developing countries; and 3)introduce to Vietnamese investigators with advanced technologies and approaches.Scientists will present their latest findings in biomedical engineering, especially works thatpromote the development of biomedical engineering in Vietnam and trigger the collaborationsbetween Vietnamese and international researchers. The conference will be accompanied bytutorial sessions and concluded by a meeting to regroup international scientists who areinterested in initiating specific joint projects and activities with the Vietnamese counterparts.Besides the scientific sessions we also organize the social events and tours to allow ourinternational guests and family members to visit our beautiful country/region and to exploreour culture.
