Energy harvesting and aerosol nonlinear plasmonics in gold nanorods

Abstract

The purpose of this project is to develop, characterize and apply gold nanorod basedplasmonic system to 1) control the orientational order of the gold nanorods (GNR) inliquid suspension using light to demonstrate that energy can be harvested from thesesystems and 2) exploit linear and nonlinear plasmonics in the gold nanorod aerosols(GNRA) in a lab based aerosol environment. This research may potentially enable newtechnologies, such as laser-based remote battery charging from topic (1) and adiversity of basic and applied studies in plasmonic aerosols, with implications tononlinear optics, geoengineering, nanojet printing, molecular diagnostics andnanomedicine. Different experimental approaches will be employed to synthesize thegold nanorods and to characterize them morphologically and optically.
