Triggered Anti-fungal hydrogels for the treatment of Candida infections

Abstract

This program seeks to develop fungal enzyme responsive hydrogels that can be used to treat infections from wounds that have high probability of contracting microbial infections. The Principal Investigator seeks to develop a hydrogel with infection-triggered release of the anti-fungal treatments, through the synthesis of polymeric hydrogels with peptide conjugates. The degree of innovation (fungi-triggered release of infection-fighting agent), knowledge of the field (reviewed and verified by Code 34), and technical approach (developed in conjunction with Code 34 awardee), are all acceptable. Further, Dr. Timothy Bentley has advocated personally for this program, therefore placing high priority on this program due to ONR HQ advocacy
