21st IEEE Statistical Signal Processing Workshop (SSP 2021)

Abstract

The Signal Processing Society (SPS) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) serves its members through high quality publications, events, technical and educational activities. Among its duties is the organization of events dedicated to the presentation and discussion of new advances in the various areas of signal processing. Among the signal processing areas is the areaof theory and methods, which encompasses research activities in algorithms, statistical inference, imaging, data science and applications in electronic systems, telecommunications and seismic. Such activities are of interest and strongly related to those of the US Naval and Marine Corp Science & Technology Plan.In this context, the Statistical Signal Processing Workshop (SSP) has been organized for over 20 years and attracts researchers from around the world. In addition, the SSP usually invites renowned speakers and is an attractive event for research students. The 21st edition of the IEEE SSP (SSP 2021) will be held in Rio de Janeiro, July 11-14, 2021, at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). IEEE SSP 2021 will present the latest advances from academia, research and development institutions, as well as companies in fields such as electronic systems, telecommunications, oil and gas. Event attendees can gain state-of-the-art insight into specific topics from selected scientific papers presented at the conference, as well as from invited lectures by 6 internationally renowned researchers, namely:Prof. Alfred Hero, University of Michigan, USAProf. Georgios Giannakis, University of Minnesota, USAProf. Robert W. Heath Jr., University of Texas at Austin, USAProf. Bart de Moor, Catholic University of Leuven, BelgiumProf. Gerhard Fettweis, TU Dresden, GermanyProf. Michael Elad, Technion, IsraelOver the last 20 years SSP has become very prestigious and is one of the most important events dedicated to statistical signal processing for scientific, technologicaland educational exchange between professionals in this area. Given the importance of IEEE and SPS to the signal processing research community and their track record in organizing scientific events and encouraging research, and the fact that it is the first time the event will be held in Brazil, it will certainly contribute to the advancement of science, technology and innovation in Brazil. The support of the US Office of Naval Research to this workshop, which has traditionally been financially supporting events over the years, is of fundamental importance to reinforce the international insertion of the Brazilian signal processing community, as well as continuing the mission that SPS has been carrying out for science and development. All information regarding IEEE SSP 2021 is available on the event portal and can be accessed at:http://ssp2020.cetuc.puc-rio.br/.The outcomes of this even will in the form papers organized in coherent programme, proceedings and technical discussions among participants.
