Organisation of International Ship Stability Workshop 2022

Abstract

In September 2022, the International Ship Stability Workshop ISSW2022 will be held in Gdansk, Poland. This event is dedicated to the, subject of ship stability and safety. Due to the prestigious nature of the workshop, it will become an opportunity to exchange expe, rience of numerous stakeholders from all over the world as well as to present the newest achievements in the field. The history of th,e meetings goes back to 1975, when the world s first STAB conference was organized in Glasgow, narrowly focused on issues related to, ship stability. That event brought together the most significant scientists involved in the subject and it turned out to be a succe,ss. From the 1980s the STAB conference is organized regularly every four years, and then every three years, as nowadays. In 1995, in,response to the expectations of the scientific community, STAB International Standing Committee established the International Ship S,tability Workshop (ISSW), the first edition of which, in a formula different from STAB, was held in 1995. It turned out to be a grea,t success therefore it is continued until today. The STAB conference is held every three years, and in the meantime, the ISSW worksh, ops are organized twice. Both events are held under the auspices of the same STAB International Standing Committee. The International, Ship Stability Workshop will be the largest and most important stability-related meeting in 2022 worldwide, however it does not ful,ly reflect its specificity. The speakers and the recognition of the event are key here. Numerous conferences have a more or less ext, ensive stability session, but it often passes unnoticed, lost in a multitude of other topics, each of which is "the most important"., Throughout the ISSW, there is one of the most important topic, which is the stability thus safety of the ship in every possible ver, sion. The workshop proceedings are available on-line as open access materials and they are widely cited ? one can hardly find a seri, ous scientific article on the subject of ship stability, in which the work previously presented at ISSW or STAB would not be cited.,Furthermore, there are lively and sometimes even sparkling discussions after the presentations, allowing for the exchange of experie, nces and knowledge. Such essence of a unique ISSW will be maintained in 2022 in Gdansk. The 18th edition of the ISSW will be organize,d by the local organizing committee from Gdansk University of Technology. All the presentations will be presented at the plenary ses, sion, and the chairpersons of individual thematic sessions will take care of the substantive level, inviting the most significant sp,eakers from around the world.Tasks related to the International Ship Stability Workshop organization will be executed by the local o,rganizing committee from Gdansk University of Technology. They consist of renting a convenient conference room, ensuring the Interne,t connection, providing the relevant service of technicians, printing the Proceedings of the workshop, organization of the STAB Inte, rnational Standing Committee meeting and STAB R&D Committee meeting, organization of the social program. However, this application i,s intended to request the financial support for a part of those tasks, i.e. spendings on the conference room, technician service inc, luding the Internet connection and the Proceedings publication. The remaining costs, including lunches, dinners, coffee brakes and a,ny social program, will be covered from other resources.
