IEEE OES AUV2022 Symposium and Singapore AUV Challenge 2022
Abstract
ABSTRACT:The IEEE OES AUV Symposium is a collaborative symposium sponsored by IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (OES) and organized o,nce in every two years. It aims to bring together those working in the field of marine robotics, including but not limited to autono, mous underwater vehicles (AUV), to exchange new knowledge and explore future directions. The event is scheduled during 19-21 Septemb,er 2022. There will be plenaries and keynote talks, technical presentations, panel discussions and social events associated with the, symposium. A small exhibition which showcases the current AUV technologies available is also part of the event. This is a highly fo,cussed single track event on emerging AUV technologies that will find applications in research, commercial and defence. This year?s,event will be a hybrid version with both in-person and virtual participation of delegates. It will be hosted at the Shaw Alumni Hous,e in the National University of Singapore main campus. We expect close to 200 international experts to participate in the symposium, and about 80-100 high quality peer-reviewed paper presentations over the two and half days of technical programme. The panel discuss, ions and keynote talks will feature world-renowned AUV experts from around the globe. There will be participation from research inst, itutes, academics, defence and industry leaders in the symposium. Awards are given to individuals to acknowledge their contribution,to the AUV technology development over the years. A life-time achievement award and two mid-career awards have been instituted by th,e sponsoring organisation. Limited student travel grants are provided to support and encourage student participation. The details of, the symposium and related events can be found here https://auv2022.org. Papers selected and presented in the technical sessions ar,e published in the IEEE Xplore database. The 2022 symposium will be followed by the popular robotics competition Singapore AUV Challe, nge (SAUVC). The SAUVC challenges participant teams to build an AUV which can perform given tasks in a pool. These tasks are inspire,d from tasks that operational AUVs would have to be able to perform. It is open to participants from all over the world. This event, has been organised since 2013 and has attracted participation of more than 250 students from over 12 countries. There is no parallel, to this event in Asia in terms of level of participation and international presence. The program has been well attended by experts, from academia and industry as well as from ONR and ONR Global in the past. This event has been held in the Olympic size swimming poo,l available at the sports and recreation club of Singapore Polytechnic. The event will be held during 23-26 September 2022 and will, feature student presentations. There is no registration fee charged to the students for this event to engage as many students as pos, sible, especially from developing and under developed countries. There will be interactive sessions with the students as well as a p,rize presentation ceremony at the end of the competition during a Gala dinner. This edition of the competition has attracted 50 stud, ent teams from which 42 teams have been short-listed for participation. More details on the competition is found at the related webs, ite https://sauvc.org.
