Partial Sponsorship of the Australian Space Research Conference

Abstract

This proposal is to provide partial sponsorship for the 20th Australian Space Research Conference (ASRC) which will be held in Sydn,ey, Australia, from 26-28 September, 2022. This will be the fourteenth ASRC jointly sponsored and organised by the Academy of Scienc,e?s National Committee for Space and Radio Science (NCSRS) and the National Space Society of Australia (NSSA), with the support of t,he Mars Society of Australia (MSA).The ASRC is the primary annual meeting for Australian space research. It welcomes researchers, en,gineers, educators, business and policy, and other workers from across the university, industry and government parts of the space se,ctor, and is not limited to Australian-based research. The scope of the conference covers both fundamental and applied research rela, ted to space science, engineering, technologies, and business, including Space science, engineering, technology, policy, law and educ, ation, space and atmospheric physics, Earth observation and remote sensing, planetary sciences, astrobiology, Space situational aware, ness (SSA), space domain awareness (SDA), and space weather. Special topical sessions will include:1) the National Context, with inv, ited presentations by key government representatives, the Academyof Science, government funded research organizations, highlighting, and discussing connections tonational strategic roadmaps for research infrastructure, and2) the 2021 ? 2030 Strategic Plan for Austr, alian Space Science. The conference?s broad reach to education, government and industry makes it a great platform fororganisations an,d researchers to network within the Australian space community. Theconference is widely advertised nationally, produces a conference, booklet, has a permanent website, andpublishes refereed proceedings. The ASRC always has a high level of student delegates ? typical,ly 40%. This provides the opportunity forsponsors to be associated with the next generation of space engineers, researchers, and inn, ovators.Australia faces challenges in meeting the workforce skills needs for the space sector. This is the premier meeting for space, researchers (science, engineering, technologists, practitioners) in Australia. As such it is very important for fostering and maint, aining the growth and future of the Australian space sector by providing a forum for information exchange, community networking, and, student pathways. It is also an important mechanism for retaining active researchers in this field within Australia. The ASRC has a, strong commitment to equity and diversity and particularly encourages sponsorship which can help grow the skills base.
