Project Abstract - Serendipity CollectiveCall To Action: Calling all dreamers, scientists, visionaries, engineers, artists, and people of the humanities! Bring your most creative, blue sky, crazy ideas, far detached from today#s reality that may not solve today#sor tomorrow#s problems, but your idea has the potential to create a future far beyond our ability to conceive it today. We want youto pitch your ideas at the Serendipity Collective#, and let the US Office of Naval Research Global, ONRG, and the German InnovationAgency, SPRIND, and Ideateplus support you from ideation all the way to commercialization. If you pitch an idea it has to be agnostic to an application, and designed with an interdisciplinary team that includes at a minimum a scientist, an engineer, an artist andsomeone from the humanities. Unleash your genius and dare to begin! The Background: Supporting foundational research that challenges conventional wisdom and the constraints of today#s understanding , The US Office of Naval Research Global is searching for radicalnew ideas in science and technology that reach well beyond solving the problems of today or tomorrow. With an investment thesis that values pure originality#irrespective of traditional business plans or vetted commercial applications#the ONRG is at the forefront of blue sky investment. Partnering with ONRG is the 2019 established German Innovation Agency, SPRIND. It focuses first and foremoston radical innovations with breakthrough potential. SPRIND finds and leverages opportunities, developing and implementing blue sky visions to support "high potentials from research institutions, universities and industry with money and know-how before, during and after their company formation so that they can successfully bring their inventions to market. The Movement: SPRIND and ONRG are building a new platform, the Serendipity Collective#, powered by IdeatePlus that empowers the most creative, interdisciplinary innovators to reach beyondtheir comfort levels to create truly disruptive new concepts in science and crazy new technologies the world hasnever seen before. The platform empowers individuals to challenge today#s conventional wisdom to create a better future far beyond tomorrow. Combing ONRG#s 81 year history of supporting blue sky, crazy ideas that have shaped the world as we know it, with SPRIND#s fresh new approach to accelerate creative concepts into reality and into the commercial market, the two organizations will consider supporting up to 5 of the most creative ideas that come out of the Serendipity Collective#. The Event: In May 2023, the ONRG and SPRIND will host its first ever iteration of the Serendipity Collective# in Berlin, Germany. This will be an in-person event unlike any other, where the most inventive minds on the planet will brainstorm the ideas beyond tomorrow. Attendees must be multidisciplinary and international, thinking beyond convention, beyond borders, and far beyond the horizon ofthis galaxy to creating a vibrant environment of academics, engineers, anthropologists, artists, and people from the humanities. Acclaimed science fiction writer Matthewde Abauitua will be on hand to compete with the teams pitching their ideas and offer his unique perspective into the future.
