SIANC STI and Orlando STEM Development
Abstract
The Specialized Inter-American Naval Conference on Science, Technology, and Innovation (SIANC-ST&I) aims to provide a platform for the exchange of information and ideas among naval forces from countries in the Americas. The conference focuses on the scientific and technical aspects of naval operations, including the use of new technologies and innovations in areas such as naval architecture, ship design, sustainment, propulsion, weapons systems, sensor systems, and communication systems. Additionally, the conference may also delve in the maritime security, defense, and maritime domain awareness. The theme of this conference is #Naval Force Integrationwith Unmanned Systems#. The goal of the conference is to promote collaboration and cooperation among naval forces in the Americas in order to improve interoperability and the effectiveness of naval operations in the Americas. The outcome of SIANC-ST&I is to help the US Navy and Marine Corps stay at the forefront of science and technologyand strengthen bilateral and multilateral relationships. This can also help to reduce the risk associated with emerging threats from other nations by staying informed about their capabilities. Additionally, by strengthening partnerships with other naval forces in the Americas, the US military can also benefit from increased cooperation and collaboration in areas such as developing a common operating picture, training, humanitarian response and joint operations. The effort will involve a meeting, tours of key research centers in the Orlando area including the NAVAIR facility along with a STEM-based event involving a tour and reception within the Kennedy Space Center. The Florida Fluids Symposium II brings together experts from Florida and around the world to identify technical challenges and explore potential approaches to overcome thosechallenges in multi-disciplinary sessions. Experts from academia, industry and government will present experimental, theoretical and numerical research through technical presentations and poster sessions, and seek new research lines of effort during planned workshop discussions. Both events will feature a line-up of expert speakers who will share technical information and insights. Relevant technology expositions, displays and demonstrations will also be a key aspect of the event, with the University of Central Florida showcasing its technology and its connection to the Navy. Distinguished speakers will also be invited to both events and include the Honorable Carlos del Toro, Secretary of the Navy, General Laura J. Richardson, Commander of US Southern Command, and RADM Lorin Selby, Chief of Naval Research. The desired outcomes of these events are to uncover technical challenges, facilitate partnerships, and opportunities to discover mutually beneficial solutions to overcome these challenges. These solutions may include identifying new research areas and joint experimentation.
