Abstract

The US-UK Showcase on Synthetic Biology for Defence is a joint US-UK conference to highlight research efforts supported by the US Department of Defense and the UK Defense Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL). The event will bring together US and UK representatives and researchers to discuss the rapidly evolving field of synthetic biology (engineered biology), its impact on biotechnology, and its application within the Department/Ministry of Defense and society at large. The meeting will include plenary talks from the US Office of the Secretary of Defense Biotechnology office and the UK Chief Scientific Advisor who will define national interests inadvancing this technology area as well as representatives from US and UK agencies such as BioMADE, BEIS, and others. The showcase will highlight scientific research in both the US and UK focusing on synthetic/engineered biology and its application to national defense. Topical sessions will highlight research efforts in sensor development, biomaterial design, biorecovery and supply chain stabilization, and alternative fuels to meet the power and energy requirements of the future. In addition to oral presentations, the meeting venue will accommodate several rooms for poster presentations and social engagement. The meeting agenda will also include #lightning talk# sessions where research teams give a brief overview of their poster and research. The day will provide numerous opportunities throughout the 2 day event for networking.
