THE 18th PACIFIC POLYMER CONFERENCE PPC182023

Abstract

The Pacific Polymer Federation (PPF) was founded in 1987 with the main focus of driving and synergizing efforts in polymer researchand innovation by groups of like-minded individuals spanning the USA, Australia, and Japan. Jim O#Donnell and David Hill, RACI; Takeo Saegusa and Akihiro Abe, SPSJ; and Otto Vogl and Joe Salamone, POLY; were the founders and the first PPF council members.Nowadays, the PPF counts numerous members from scientific societies across 16 different countries bordering the Pacific Rim. Since its inception, the PPF has grown rapidly into a worldwide renowned organization that provides multiple platforms and opportunities for international research organizations in polymer science, technology, and innovation. The 18th PACIFIC POLYMER CONFERENCE, PPC18, organized by the Sociedad Polimérica de México A.C. and the ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry, Inc., aims to promote collaborations among researchers to disclose and share the main advances in science, technology, and engineering in polymer area. PPC18 is a great effort andforum to promote interaction among researchers in the polymer field belonging to different countries among the Pacific Rim, and this edition is looking to open opportunities to Latin American countries. Previous PPC conferences have enhanced and strengthened research collaborations in the polymer field, to name a few: visiting opportunities, the promotion of short stays, sabbatical stays, and the beginning of multiple projects jointly between the assistants to the conferences, as well as showing advances in the most recent and hot topics in the state of the art of polymer science and engineering, to name a few: new polymerization technologies, recent advances in polymer characterization, polymer physics, self-assembly and colloidal systems, supramolecular polymers, responsive-adaptive polymers, composite polymeric materials, polyelectrolytes, gels and polymer networks, nano-structured and self-assembled materials, theory and computational modeling, additive manufacturing, among others. We are very confidents this PPC18 will not be the exception, because the Technical Session S10 Polymers for Defense Applications have been thought to be of great interest of the international scientific community in polymer science. The PPC18 conference aims to promote advances on cutting-edge topics in the polymerfield, and for the first time, offers the Technical Session S10 dedicated on Polymers for Defense Applications, creating a new opportunity for the Navy to engage and identify future research projects to address topics of interest for ONRG in Latin America. The estimated number of participants for the upcoming PPC18 is estimated around 400-450 people.
