Serendipity Collective Annual Workshop
Abstract
Project Abstract - Combining the Serendipity Collective & Global-X communityNEW in 2024: In 2024, we have plans to scale-up the program by adding new and engaging topics such as the Serendipity Collective Local Chapters (broadening the reach in areas of interest, such as the the Balkans & Baltic zones and increase audience engagement in order to improve the quality of ideas being formed and the nurturing of the mutli-disciplinary teams prior to the annual funding event) and the Serendipity Collective Podcasts (reach new audiences, build brand awareness, and promote products and services). We also aim to increase the quality of ideas selected for funding, by creating a Learning Management System (LMS) for participants, focusing on how to create and validate ideas prior to pitching them to the ONRG of venture capitalists (VCs) for funding.Furthermore, ONRG would like to leverage the success and learnings of the Serendipity Collective platform, powered by IdeatePlus to broaden the geographic and functional reach of the participants, and the quality of ideas proposed for funding for the Global-X Challenge. Participants from Global-X will be channeled to the Serendipity Collective crowdsourcing platform to submit their high-level concepts into a specific problem statement, outlining the key demand signals sought by ONRG.Ideas that get funded in the Serendipity Collective shall provide a pipeline for the Global-X initiative in years to come.Call To Action: Serendipity Collective: Calling all dreamers, scientists, visionaries, engineers, artists, and people of thehumanities! Bring your most creative, blue sky, crazy ideas, far detached from today#s reality that may not solve today#s or tomorrow#s problems, but your idea has the potential to create a future far beyond our ability to conceive it today. We want you to pitch your ideas at the Serendipity Collective#, and let our venture capitalists (VCs) such as the US Office of Naval Research Global, ONRG, and Ideateplus support you from ideation all the way to commercialization. If you pitch an idea it has to be agnostic to an application, and designed with an interdisciplinary team that includes at a minimum a scientist, an engineer, an artist and someone from the humanities.Global-X: The expected outcomes of this Global-X Challenge are promising, potentially game-changing, concepts whose technology maturity may be accelerated under separate follow-on technology development efforts over a 9-month period. The Background:Serendipity Collective: Supporting foundational research that challenges conventional wisdom and the constraints of today#s understanding. Our VCs are searching for radical new ideas in science and technology that reach well beyond solving the problems of today or tomorrow. With an investment thesis that values pure originality#irrespective of traditional business plans or vetted commercial applications#the ONRG is at the forefront of blue sky investment.Global-X: The purpose of this Global-X Challenge is to discover, and ultimately provide a catalyst through a research grant, for subsequent development and delivery of revolutionary capability to the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, the commercial marketplace, and the public. The Movement:In partnership with ONRG, Ideateplus (a leading Swiss-based innovation consultant) have built and proof-tested a new platform, the Serendipity Collective#, that empowers the most creative, interdisciplinary innovators to reach beyond their comfort levels to create truly disruptive new concepts in science and crazy new technologies the world has never seen before. The platform empowers individuals to challenge today#s conventional wisdom to create a better future far beyond tomorrow.Ideateplus is also co-innovating with ONRG to build an AI-enabled platform to evaluate future proposals (concept papers, white papers or proposals). The AI-driven platform assists in reviewing proposals, improving the selection process.
