Promoting Marine Science Collaboration through the COLACMAR 2024 and CBO 2024 Congress

Abstract

The Brazilian Association of Oceanography (AOCEANO) will host the 8th Brazilian Congress of Oceanography (CBO#2024) from August 13 to August 16, 2024, in the city of Itajaí, Santa Catarina, Brazil. In partnership with the Latin American Association of Marine Science Researchers (ALICMAR), it will also host the 20th Latin American Congress of Marine Sciences (COLACMAR#2024) during the same dates and at the same venue. This will be a historic meeting of leading researchers, companies, and entrepreneurs in the marine sciences from across the continent. The events will be held at the Centreventos Luiz Henrique da Silveira in Itajaí.These congresses will occur within the framework of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), under the motto #the science we need for the ocean we want.# COLACMAR#2024 and CBO#2024 aim to strengthen cooperation in international oceanographic research to promote the conservation of the oceans, improve the management of coastal natural resources, and create communication mechanisms to help the oceanographic community and marine sciences share their knowledge with the general public. The programming will focus on Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14) - Life Below Water, emphasizing the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas, and marine resources. The events aim to bring together sectors involved in oceanography and marine sciences, including teaching and research institutions, public and private companies, development agencies, investors, public institutions related to oceanography, the third sector, professional researchers, and undergraduate and graduate students. It is estimated that more than 2,000 participants from Brazil and abroad will attend. The program will include technical and short courses, thematic sessions, conferences, case studies, technical panels, and the presentation of technical-scientific papers in oral and poster formats.
