Environmental, Scientific, and Technological Transformations and Their Impact on International Security and Democratic Governance.

Abstract

This workshop proposal explores the complex nexus of environmental, scientific, and technological transformations and their impactson international security and democratic governance. It examines how recent scientific and technological advances influence the sustainability of democratic systems and analyzes the risks and challenges posed by these developments amidst climate change. Particularly focused on Argentina, the workshop explores the interplay among democracies concerning climate change-related humanitarian crises, scientific progress, and international security dynamics. It evaluates the legal frameworks and accountability mechanisms governing public sector scientific and technological initiatives, explores the influence of democratic frameworks on technological advancement, and proposes strategies for addressing emerging challenges at a global scale. The workshop also considers issues such as multilateralism, ethical concerns surrounding artificial intelligence and defense technologies, and the role of corporate social responsibility in technology sectors. It serves as a forum for academics, policymakers, students, and civil society stakeholders to exchange insights and best practices in navigating these issues.
