International Semiconductor Symposium Stepping Forward Together

Abstract

The International Semiconductor Symposium will bring together representatives from the academia-industry-government triple helix inGuadalajara, Jalisco (Mexico), to promote the development of the semiconductor industry in Mexico, particularly in the state of Jalisco, considered the country s Silicon Valley. This symposium will attract national and international scientific-technological research experts who will showcase to the public the direction of the research in semiconductors carried out in universities and researchcenters. In addition, industry experts in Jalisco will present the significant challenges facing the immediate future in the regionand Mexico on this topic. Guadalajara s importance in the semiconductor industry stems from its established manufacturing capabilities, skilled workforce, strategic location, supportive infrastructure, collaborative environment, and governmental support. These factors collectively make Guadalajara a key player in the global semiconductorlandscape. The vision of locals will be enriched by plenary sessions featuring international experts with academia-industry ties to provide a more global perspective on the challenges in the semiconductor industry and practical collaborative actions between universities and industry that are generating positive results in other parts of the world. Finally, the triple helix will be completed with the presence of state and federal government representatives in panel sessions and networking events, where actions will be taken to benefit the economic and social development of the country. The scope of this type of event opens a vast window of opportunities for effective collaboration and linkage between countries, contributing to technology and economic development. Semiconductors are a cornerstone for research with an impact that extends tonearly all fields of science and engineering, in which ONR Global actively participates in research projects. To mention a few examples, in areas of electronics and computing, semiconductor optimizes the development of modern electronic devices; in energy and environmental topics, it seeks efficiency, cost reduction, and production of solar panels; in nanotechnology, its applications in medicine, electronics, and advanced materials are increasing; and in areas of the artificial intelligence revolution, semiconductors are critical for the development of specialized hardware and quantum computing. This proposed symposium will advance the state of the art in semiconductors, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration between materials scientists, physicists, engineers, and computer scientists from academia and industry. This collaboration between both sectors will provide the opportunity to learn about the cutting-edge research carried out in universities and research centers on new semiconductor materials, device design and engineering, manufacturing techniques, packaging, and circuit integration, among others. On the other hand, the industrial sector will show the manufacturing capabilities that can be used to scale up any technological development in the field, the challenges they face, and the solutions they seek. Learning about the current and future challenges in semiconductors will also identify the required actions for developing a qualified workforce through education and training in semiconductor technology, guaranteeing a source of talent capable of constantly advancing the state of the art. Hence, this symposium will allow researchers and industry leaders to continue pushing the boundaries of semiconductor technology, paving the way for new generations of more powerful, energy-efficient, and versatile electronic devices.
