30th International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC) and Technical Workshops
Abstract
The ITTC is a voluntary association of worldwide organizations that have the responsibility for the prediction of the hydrodynamic performance of ships and marine installations based on the results of physical and numerical experiments. ITTC is recognized as a non-governmental organization (NGO) with observer status to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), where ITTC participates actively in matters regarding safety and performance. The ITTC #Full Conference# involves representatives of all member organizations and is held every 3 years to hear the latest progress in each technical field. The venue of the Full Conference circulates between sixdefined world regions, with the 30th ITTC to be held in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, in September 2024.An Executive Committee is responsible for the day-to-day operation, and an Advisory Council for technical matters. A number of permanent and specialist technical committees perform defined work tasks and report to the Full Conference. There are currently 103 member organizations of the ITTC,who#s leading experts form ~11 technical committees covering a range of specific fields relevant to industry. For example, ship hull resistance & propulsion; seakeeping, manoeuvring; stability in waves; full-scale performance; ocean renewable energy; ocean engineering. The aims of the ITTC are:a) To stimulate progress in solving the technical problems which are of importance to its members;b) To stimulate research in areas in which a better knowledge is required in order to improve methods of predicting the full-scale hydrodynamic performance of ships and marineinstallations;c) To stimulate the improvement of methods of model experiments, numerical modelling and full-scale measurements;d) To recommend procedures for carrying out physical model experiments, numerical modelling and full-scale measurements of ships and marine installations;e) To validate the accuracy of full-scale predictions for quality assurance;f) To formulate collective policy on matters of common interest;g) To provide an effective organization for the interchange of information;h) To be a contact point to other international organizations such as IMO, ISO, etc. on aspects related to the aims of the association.Selected Member Organizations from the USA are listed below. Individuals who have been invited due to their involvement in the abovementioned committees are also included:Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock DivisionArt Reed # Executive CommitteeMartin J. Beck # Advisory Council and Organization RepresentativeKevin Maki # Chair of the Specialist Committee on Combined CFD/EFD MethodsYulin Pan - Seakeeping CommitteeThe program for the 30th ITTC Full Conference in Hobart includes reports from the Executive Committee, Advisory Council, all Technical Committees and the Quality Systems Group. Each will report on their work over the past 3-year term. Other activities include three workshop sessions, a report from the #Future of ITTC# Working Group and a practical workshop specifically for early-mid career engineers / researchers that will use the hosts hydrodynamic facilities. As is customary, all of the above work will be covered in written Proceedings, made available to all Member Organizations and Members (usually exceeding 1000 pages over three Volumes).
