Closed-loop Neuromodulation to Treat PTSD

Abstract

The primary goal of this effort is to create new knowledge of neurophysiological circuits (anatomy and function) and to leverage that knowledge to inform neuro-modulation system design. This efforts focus is to elucidate the neurophysiological mechanisms of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) use and use the new insights to inform closed-loop neuro-modulation systems. This effort culminates with in vivo demonstrations of physiological state tuning via feedback-controlled neuro-stimulation in humans and also involves preclinical work in animal models. This effort also develops and tests neural interface technology, electrodes for chronic recording/stimulation and biomarker detection technology.
