Multiscale Optical Phase Retrieval

Abstract

The scope of this study is to demonstrate the experimental feasibility of 10-100 meter baseline synthetic aperture ladar using multiscale phase retrieval and to present hardware and software architectures that will enable this technology. The development of optical illumination and sensor arrays for optimal phase retrieval, enabling coherent and partially coherent field reconstruction without the need for a reference beam is within scope of this effort. The effort will (1) experimentally demonstrate phase retrieval, nonlinear image estimation and interferometer design results, showing that reference-free long-baseline coherent imaging is possible, (2) develop optimal sampling and processing strategies for future system implementations and (3) analyze and develop optimized integrated physical designs for reference-free coherent imaging.
