Quiness: Small-scale quantum processor for quantum networking

Abstract

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology will develop quantum processors for small-scale quantum networks. In this scheme, the strong optical nonlinearity required for optical quantum information processing arises from the strong long-range interaction between Rydberg atoms. By means of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) the atom-atom interaction is converted into an effective photon-photon interaction.
