Electrowetting Lens Optical Shutter (ELOS)

Abstract

High rejection ratio optical shutters with fast response time are important for many applications including chip-scale atomic clocks, gyroscopes, imaging and communications. This work will study a shutter based on electrowetting between two liquids to achieve these specifications. Electrowetting is an attractive solution with the potential for low scattering, ultracompact devices with very low power draw, and kHz speeds.
