Peripherally Restricted to REV-ERB Agonists for Treatment of Diabetes and Obesity
Abstract
The REV-ERB nuclear receptors play an important role in regulation of metabolic pathways as well as the circadian rhythm. We developed synthetic REV-ERB agonists and demonstrated that they are effective in treatment of metabolic diseases in animal models, but they have effects on the central nervous system that one may want to avoid with a new therapeutic. Here, we focus on developing REV-ERB agonists that only target the periphery and avoid targeting the brain so that we may develop effective drugs for treatment of metabolic diseases in humans.
