A Point-of-Care Assay for Rapid and Multiplexed Detection of Gastrointestinal Pathogens

Abstract

This application is for the Topic Area Diarrheal Diseases. For this application, we propose a point-of-care diagnostics assay for acute diarrheal illness. This project aims to develop a rapid and multiplexed diagnostics assay for diarrheal diseases in resource-limited settings. Current technologies rely on complex and expensive lab instruments that are not suitable for point-of-care applications. During the feasibility study, we will develop and evaluate a microelectronic sensor chip for rapid and multiplexed detection of multiple gastrointestinal pathogens that cause diarrheal diseases. No optical instrument is required. The results will be benchmarked with current gold standard diagnostic methods, such as microscopy, culture, PCR, and ELISA.
