Targeted Pro-Inflammatory Prodrugs for the Immunotherapy of Kidney Cancer

Abstract

Unleashing a patients immune system to attack his or her cancer is one of the most promising developments in cancer care. Unfortunately, the medicines that take the brakes off the immune system and unleash it do not always work. A common reason for their failure is that the cancers are simply invisible to the immune system. To paint these tumors and make them highly visible to the immune system, we are generating smart missiles, which can go from the blood to all kidney cells and cause visibility no matter where the cancer is. If this project works, it would change the way we deliver immunotherapy and have lasting benefits for patients.
