MGT, SPECIES, BELUGA WHALE ALL WATERS BUT SIXMILE JOINT BASE ELMENDORF RICHARDSON (JBER), ALASKA

Abstract

Adult salmon spawn in five waterways on JBER: Eagle River, Sixmile Creek, Ship Creek, Chester Creek and Campbell Creek. Two of these waterways, Eagle River and Sixmile Creek, flow into the Knik Arm directly from JBER lands. Belugas have been observed pursuing salmon in both mouth areas, especially at the mouth of Eagle River in Eagle Bay to include upstream forays in Eagle River of more than 4 km. The run timing and numbers of salmon in Eagle River, however, are poorly understood.
