MGT, Habitat Alpine Training Support Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER), Alaska

Abstract

Alpine training areas are a unique resource, offering a highly specialized training environment found in few other military installations in the world. Maintaining accurate and comprehensive inventories of ecosystem function is critical to supporting mission objectives. Several studies on the ecology and wildlife in alpine ecotypes have been conducted since establishment of the Richardson Training Areas (Walker et al. 1997; Jorgenson et al. 2004; MWH 2013; Dial et al. 2014; Dial et al. 2015; Rinas et al. 2016; Johnson et al. 2017) however data gaps remain. Compilation and extension and update of existing study efforts is required to fill data gaps and develop a comprehensive update to the ecological status of the alpine training areas.
