Fort Wainwright Forest Protection Fire

Abstract

This project will establish forest protection control lines to reduce wildfire escapement actions around the Yukon Training Area’s (YTA’s) Infantry Platoon Battle Course (IPBC), Infantry Squad Battle Course (ISBC) and Husky Drop Zone. This project will improve access for wildfire operations in the YTA and Donnelly Training Area (DTA). The project will establish maintainable mineral soil fuel breaks around areas of high potential wildfire escapement. The project will also establish a maintainable mineral soil fuel break around the perimeter of Husky Drop Zone. Vegetation will be cleared along a total area of 25,000 feet long by 12 feet wide. Vegetation will be ripped and then disced to form a mineral soil fuel break. The areas to be treated are currently grass covered. This project will impact approximately 9 acres.
