Oklahoma and Stuart Creek Impact Areas Wildfire Hazard Reduction

Abstract

The primary objectives of these tasks is to assist FWA with the optimal management of training lands, to minimize restrictions to the military mission due to wildfire related constraints, to protect and enhance biological diversity and ecological health on all FWA lands, and to ensure compliance with all environmental laws and regulations. This project is conducted to update required planning level surveys (PLSs) as required by the DAIM-ED-N Memorandum, dated March 21, 1997, subject: Army Goals and Implementing Guidance for Natural Resources PLSs and INRMPs. Specific program objectives include: • The management of vegetation to reduce the risk of wildfires on training lands. • Collect vegetation data necessary for the sound management of military lands. Assemble, edit, summarize, analyze, interpret, and apply vegetation data to the management of natural resources on military installations. This is accomplished most efficiently with state-of-the-art computer analyses and on-site technical expertise. • Improve vegetation habitat to support wildlife habitat requirements, military training requirements and reduce the potential for wildland fire. • Contribute to making the most sound, balanced decisions possible regarding land use and resource management on public lands and military installations by the provision of the best research, data, and analytical tools available. • Maintain the land in a condition to provide for optimal military training experiences and to protect cultural resource sites, soil, water, vegetation, and wildlife resources in a healthy and diverse state.
