JBER NATURAL RESOURCE SUPPORT
Abstract
Planning and Decision Support: Planning and decision support contribute to making sound decisions regarding land use, natural and cultural resource management, military training impacts, project siting, etc. Environmental Assessments (EA) and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) are routinely necessary on public and military lands prior to initiating testing and training exercises, implementation of various resource management plans, and siting or construction activities. These planning documents require large amounts of supporting data, information and analysis and are increasingly common and often required by law and regulations. The Integrated Natural Resource Management Plan (INRMP) and Cultural Resource Management Plans are two examples of such planning documents. The plans, in turn, require supporting documentation, such as multiple layers of data in a geographical information system, vegetation community maps, and databases on the resources in question. Natural Resource Data Collection: Natural resource data collection includes the full range of information needed to manage renewable resources on a military installation: basic flora and fauna inventories; 2 condition and trend monitoring; rare, threatened and endangered species monitoring; marine mammal monitoring; baseline inventories; forest or rangeland inventories; game census; and other special purpose surveys. Data collection efforts contribute to baseline resource information and trend analysis necessary to support management decisions.
