Sustainable Range Study-RTA, FWA, and DTA
Abstract
The primary objectives of this project are to assist Richardson Training Area (RTA), Fort Wainwright (FWA), and Donnelly Training Area (DTA) with the optimal management of training lands, to minimize restrictions to the military mission due to natural and cultural resource related constraints, to protect and enhance biological diversity and ecological health on all USARAK lands, and to ensure compliance with all environmental laws and regulations. Specific objectives are as follows: (a) To collect Range and Training Land Assessment (RTLA) data necessary for the sound management of military lands. The land must be maintained in a condition to provide for optimal military training experiences and to protect cultural resource sites and maintain soil, water, vegetation, and wildlife resources in a healthy and diverse state. (b) To assemble, edit, summarize, analyze, interpret, and apply RTLA data to the management of USARAK range and training lands using the Training Requirements Integration (TRI) model of analysis. This is accomplished most efficiently with state-of-the-art computer analyses and on-site technical expertise. (c) To contribute to sound and balanced decision-making regarding land use and resource management on public lands and military installations by the provision of the best research, data, and analytical tools available.
