Triple Resonance Low Temperature MAS Probe for Solid State DNP-NMR and Micro-imaging System for the Study of Ice Binding Protein Enhanced Anti-Icing Fluids

Abstract

This DOD grant is to upgrade our Bruker BioSpin AVANCETM 600 MHz WB NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) spectrometer. The upgrade includes: (1) a Bruker BioSpin LT (Low Temperature) MAS (Magic Angle Spinning) SS (Solid-State) DNP (Dynamic-Nuclear-Polarization) Triple-Resonance (17O-13C-1H) NMR Probe and the corresponding LT control accessories; and (2) a Bruker BioSpin LT Micro-imaging probe with RheoNMR accessary and the corresponding Linux workstation and micro-imaging software. We will use these probes to study the deicing/anti-icing behavior of ice-binding proteins (IBPs) and the involved molecular mechanism of action for aviation applications. We have placed the major purchase orders (POs) to Bruker BioSpin Inc. in March, 2015, and a minor PO for purchasing two imaging resonators is in process. Only a chiller for imaging accessory was delivered from Bruker so. We expect to have the imaging probe to be delivered to us at the end of 2015, and the SS DNP probe delivered in February, 2016.
