Armor Ceramics Symposium - ACerS 39th International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites

Abstract

The technical objective of the proposed effort is to support an annual forum for the presentation and discussion of unclassified information and ideas pertaming to the development and .incorporation of ceramic materials for armor applications. The proposal requests support for the Armor Ceramics Symposium, to be held as part of the American Ceramics Society s 39th International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites. Holding this forum in conjunction with the American Ceramic Society s annual conference is intended to maximize the benefit and participation of the meeting. In recent years this annual symposiun has expanded to include invited presentations from international experts and emerging new research areas. Specific topics to be covered at the 2015 symposium include: ballistic behavior. synthesis and processing, materials characterization, quasi-static and dynamic behavior, materials and process modeling, and bonding of materials. In addition, the 2015 symposium plans to have a special focus topic on grain boundaries and grain boundary engineering. Papers from the Annor Ceramics Symposium will also be published in Advances in Ceramic Armor X, Ceramic Engineering and Science Proceedings, Vohune 36, Issue 5. 2015. The requested support will be used to provide registration and travel support for invited speakers in order to maximize participation of both renowned experts and emerging young researchers in the ceramic materials conununity.
