44th International School and Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors Jaszowiec 2015

Abstract

International School & Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors "Jaszowiec" is an event bringing together prominent experts from the broad semiconductor physics, held in Poland with over forty years of tradition . Over the years, the "Jaszowiec" Conference has become an international event and is well known in the world community of semiconductor physics. In 1992 a 2-days tutorial session (School), addressed mainly to graduate students and young scientists, was established and since then precedes the Conference. Every year, the conference brings together prominent experts working both in Poland and foreign (in 2014 from 17 countries) research centers bringing an important contribution to the development of semiconductor physics. In the last years the number of participants of the School and Conference started to reach ca 250. Thanks to the multinational character of the conference enables and stimulates the exchange of experience and networking at national and international levels. It is the largest conference on the subject held in Central Europe. High scientific quality of the conference every year is maintained thanks to the work of world-class experts from the Advisory and Program Committees. Advisory Committee consists of 12 experts from leading centers for the physics of semiconductors in Europe, United States and Japan. The Program Committee is composed of experts from co-organizing institutions. Both committees maintain a high level of scientific conference thanks to the selection of lecturers. The Conference is preceded by a two-day Tutorial Session (School), addressed mainly to PhD and graduate students. During the School 6 lectures will be given, followed by discussions and exercises, which provide an introductory overview of the main conference topics. The program of the 44th Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors provides 22 plenary lectures, of which 70% will constitute foreign professionals, 42 short presentations and about 180 poster presentations. Leading Polish research centers active in the field are involved in the Conference organization including Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences; Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw; Institute of High Pressure Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences; Wroclaw University of Technology, and Institute of Electron Technology. The conference covers the most up-to-date and relevant scientific problems which belong to the broad area of semiconductor physics. During the conference key scientific problems will be discussed that could lead to the development of experimental, theoretical and computational modelling disciplines in semiconductor physics and the emergence of new technologies and applications. In particular, relevant to the conference are: spintronics and spin phenomena in semiconductors, nanostructure semiconductor quantum dots, quantum wells and nanowires, graphene and carbon nanostructures, quantum optics and nanophotonics, topological insulators, electrical, magnetic and optical properties of semiconductor materials, defects and impurities in solids, quantum computing, and synthesis and characterization of semiconductor materials. The meeting offers a very good opportunity for the transfer of knowledge between excellent scientists and PhD students, and also to a wider group of scientists related to Department of the Navy (DoN) through the conference materials. The atmosphere has always inspired discussions, informal contacts and new scientific acquaintances. The objectives of the meeting, i.e. training as well as an exchange of information on semiconductor physics, materials science and applications, overlap with the DoN areas of interest.
