Reaction Dynamics Using a Coherent M-state Superposition Within a Single (v, J) Rovibrational Energy Eigenstate

Abstract

The objective of this proposal is to acquire the necessary equipment in order to carry out elastic and inelastic collision experiments of molecular H2 prepared in well-defined vibrational and rotational states. The PI is requesting additional funds of$69,420 to acquire the rest of the necessary equipment to reach a benchmark goal. The requested equipment includes: an 8-channel digital delay generator, a high voltage power supply, an X-Y-Z manipulator for a vacuum feed-through, two vacuum pumps to maintain a single-collision environment, three half-wave retarders for rotating the polarization of the VUV light pulses of various wavelengths, some optical components for quantum state preparation, a leak valve, a high-fidelity pulsed valve to make intense and cold molecular beams, and a chiller. A detailed description of the requested equipment is given in the proposal as well as the significance of each piece. This equipment proposal will support the PIs work on a current ARO SI project and a current ARO MURI project.
