Conference and Symposia Grants: ARO Travel Grant Support for ACM WiSec 2015 Conference

Abstract

This grant supported US student to attend (ACM) Conference on Security and Privacy in Wireless and Mobile Networks (WiSec 2015) for the purpose of furthering their graduate education. The students greatly benefited from attending WiSec, because the conference provided a unique opportunity to interact with the members of the wireless and smartphone security and privacy communities. Practitioners and members of the scientific community attended the conference, and shared their ideas with the students. ACM Conference on Security and Privacy in Wireless and Mobile Networks (WiSec 2015) was held on the Manhattan, New York City campus of the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) on June 22-26, 2015. WiSec 2015 had a total of 83 registered attendees. The conference accepted 25 papers out of 131 submissions (19% acceptance rate), and 9 posters/demos. The conference program included two keynotes: the first, on June 24 (Why we should build a Secure Positioning Infrastructure, Dr. Srdjan Capkun, ETH Zurich); the second, on June 25 (Security for Low-End IoT Devices: When Energy is Not Enough, What is One to Do? Wade Trappe, Rutgers University). ACM WiSec focuses new research ideas on the security and privacy aspects of wireless communications, mobile networks, and their applications. In addition to the traditional ACM WiSec topics of physical, link, and network layer security, we also welcome papers focusing on the security and privacy of mobile software platforms and the increasingly diverse range of mobile or wireless applications.
