Support to visit with ERDC GSL and ITL in Vicksburg, MS, USA to discuss characterisation and modeling of granular systems from data

Abstract

The objective of this visit was to: (a) present a series of seminars on the latest developments in characterization and modeling of heterogeneous granular materials and, more broadly, complex systems through big data analytics; (b) explore joint research opportunities in the area of high performance computing for data-intensive modeling and simulations intended for large scale multiphysics applications. A key focus was knowledge discovery through new algorithmic tools, developed by Tordesillas and co-workers from the School of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Melbourne, which can perform advanced data analytics in near-real-time.
